A short review of Amazon’s competitive advantages and key businesses.
The overlooked Amazon case
The short makes a bullish case for Amazon by looking beyond the retail storefront. AWS, described in the video as a roughly $107 billion revenue business, remains a cloud leader and has an important role in AI infrastructure. Amazon’s custom Trainium chips are part of the argument that it may have more ways to participate in AI demand than the market gives it credit for.
A sum-of-the-parts mindset
Retail, advertising, subscriptions and cloud services have different economics. Looking at them separately can reveal why a company with low retail margins may still create significant cash flow elsewhere. It can also expose the risks: retail competition, cloud pricing, high capital requirements and the execution needed to turn infrastructure investment into returns.
